Cider House experience

No trip to the Basque is complete without a trip and a meal at a traditional Basque Cider House. Afterwards, a coffee and a shot of one of the traditional Basque sweet liquors are offered (Basque schnapps almost). Your guide will accompany your group to a cider house and explain all the fun that is going on around you. We will start our experience at a Cider Museum that will help you understand the cider making process and may offer you a few samples.

Then, we will dive into the cider adventure. It is always a set menu that includes, tortilla de bacalao, bacalao with peppers/capsicum, ox steak, and a traditional Basque dessert that is done with local cheese, walnuts and membrillo (type of quinces paste). Afterwards, a coffee and a shot of one of the traditional Basque sweet liquors are offered Basque (schnapps almost). During the entire time of the meal you will have an opportunity to sample all of the ciders as you catch each taste from the cask themselves-it is a learned technique and there are anywhere from 5 to 25 casks depending on the cider house that we go to.

If my best friend on earth came to visit, I would surely take him/her to a cider house. You will not be disappointed!
